Accuracy Plus: Advanced Features of a Stereoscopic Microscope

The many advanced features of the stereoscopic microscope provided a lot of benefits to its users. For example, due to its powerful magnification, you can have excellent sample viewing.

When physicist and Professor Sir Charles Wheatstone (1802–1875) invented the stereoscope viewer, little did he know that he was contributing to the field of microscopy that would extend to this generation with the design of more advanced features of a stereoscopic microscope.

Since then the laboratory microscope has evolved from the horseshoe base and mirror standard to today’s superior microscope with hand rests on both sides of the stages and powerful magnification function. Their functions also improved, and the number of people who can use them grow immensely.

Powerful Magnification
The stereoscopic microscope offer better viewing of samples. Through the powerful magnification, you see the objects clearly, as if you are inside the microscope. The advantage also lies in the adjustable viewing function. Unlike standard microscopes, you don’t lose sight of the object when you switch viewing modes. The ordinary laboratory microscope has two optical parts that work together to get the degree of enlargement to view the object or sample more accurately.

A viewer using a regular microscope will cross or diverge his eyes. Each of his eye will see a different image. The stereoscopic microscope eliminates this difficulty. It has a zoom lens suited to observe low to middle magnification range about 5 times or 120 times its size. The image will have more depth. It would be like watching an image on TV. This is the stereoscopic effect. This makes viewing a microscopic object through the stereoscopic microscope easier and clearer without straining the eyes.

Clearer Images and Real Colors
The new stereoscopic microscope presents clearer images and real colors without distortion of shape. The coated and bigger optic lens and glass material eliminates glare and show the object’s natural or real colors. This would be the best instrument for measuring or verifying specimens under study. Since it has two separate light courses or directions, bigger objects like an insect, can be viewed under the microscope. It has a halogen lamp of 44202 for advanced or low power application. The two paths of lights allow the viewing of both bigger and smaller objects.

Automatic Focal Imaging
Automatic extended focal imaging (EFI) in digital documentation is possible with the motorized focus drive. 3D focal images can be created. This will enhance the verifying task in measuring objects. The 11 position allows the quick change of function from stereoscopic viewing to zoom imaging. The back light provides an accurate measuring of the object with a camera, hence the replicated image is reliable in all directions.

The SZX2 range allows for a live digital viewing of the object. To do this the SZX2 stereos is fitted with a three-lens (trinocular) head. The Olympus DP71 cooled digital camera has a resolution of 12.5 mega pixels. Managing the interface is easy and convenient when switched from one function to another, and does not induce any color shifts between exchanges.

Top and Bottom Illumination and Wider Stage
The halogen lamp provides the illumination to view of different sizes. The stage of the microscope is a wide diameter of or 3.7 inches (95mm). The viewer has the option to select a background with the availability of black, white, frosted, or opaque stage plates. The light that filters enhances the viewing of specific objects.

Power Lenses and Rotating Binocular Head
The 10x two eyepieces are fitted with 2x and 4x objective lens that provides viewing powers of 20x and 40x. Because it has two light paths, bigger objects can be viewed with the lower power application. Insects and plants, rock samples can be examined closely. The eyepieces are supported by the rotating binocular head, which is inclined at 45°, and can rotate as far as 360°. The rotating feature will make viewing in any position comfortable.

Metal Body for Durability and Rigidity
The new stereoscopic microscopes have slimmer bases than earlier models. The base contains the LED system that illuminates the microscope. The stage height is designed to meet convenience as well as comfort for the user. The metal body has a turret cassette to make the viewing selection easy to control and manipulate. There are three fields of illumination: bright, dark and oblique illumination. The Liquid Emitting Diodes or LDEs do not heat the instrument because it has a longer life span.

Advances in Science
The advanced features of a stereoscopic microscope will enhance scientific research. The leap in the field of microscopy augurs well for all efforts to advance technology and importantly medical science. With the advent of microscopy technology, more advances in laboratory research and medical science can be achieved.
